KUCHING: Donating secondhand clothing gives the items a new lease of life and proves to be beneficial, particularly for those facing financial challenges.

The Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia Kuching is one of the organisations that collects used clothing and sells it at a minimal price of RM1.

They received dozens of bags containing used clothing donated by the public during the buy-back campaign for recyclable goods, electrical/electronic items, and used cooking oil, as well as the donation of used clothing held at Batu Kawa Recreation Park here today.

The campaign was organised by the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) in collaboration with the Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia Kuching, DNS Waste Management, the Department of Environment, and the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB).

According to Chin Jin Kiong, a volunteer for the organisation, the used clothes will be selected and washed before being sold at their office in Pending.

“These clothes are sold at reasonable prices, ranging from RM1 to RM3.

“If we cannot sell the clothes, we will send them to a bundle for selection and sale,” he said when met by New Sarawak Tribune.

In addition to selling used clothing to the less fortunate, Chin said their organisation also engages in charitable work in the aspect of education and healthcare.

He added that the Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia Kuching would conduct public donation drives to assist those in need, such as single mothers and kidney patients.

“Like this week, we will gather at the homes of those in need, providing financial assistance, school bus subsidies, education, and kidney treatment regardless of race and religion,” he said.
