PENANG: The ‘Ngabas Anak Sarawak’ programme will be expanded to other states to provide exposure and direction on development initiatives and assistance from the Sarawak government.
Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said this initiative is an initial step by the ministry to reach out to over 58,000 Sarawakian students across the country, including 27,000 students in public higher learning institutions (IPT) and 31,000 in private IPTs.
“This is the first session organized directly by the ministry. We’re starting with the northern region and plan to expand this programme to other states.
“Due to the large number of institutions, our approach is to centralize students in specific zones so they can attend together,” he told a press conference during the ‘Ngabas Anak Sarawak’ programme held at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), here today (Apr 14).
Meanwhile, he said the programme brings together Sarawakian students from various IPTs in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia, including Kedah, Perlis, and Perak, with the aim of introducing educational initiatives and opportunities offered by the Sarawak government, such as skills programmes, education incentives, and industry collaborations.
He added that institutions such as Sarawak Skills, CENTEXS, and SMD Semiconductor were also involved in the programme, introducing various graduate skills programmes, along with major companies like PETROS, which participated in the career exhibition held in conjunction with the event.
“The Sarawak Government hopes that with the expansion of this programme to other states, more students will be informed about the policies and opportunities available, ultimately helping them contribute to the state’s development after graduation.
“If we can reach and provide exposure to more than 50 percent of Sarawakian students outside the state, that would already be considered a success,” he added.
