KUCHING: New Zealand remains the preferred destination for Malaysian students, especially those on scholarship programmes, says High Commissioner of New Zealand to Malaysia, Michael Walsh.
According to Walsh, many students who study in New Zealand return home with the expertise they have gained, making significant contributions to the country’s development and strengthening bilateral relations.
“New Zealand continues to maintain close ties with alumni who have studied in the country, reflecting New Zealand’s commitment to supporting them both professionally and socially,” he said.
He said this after paying a courtesy visit to Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, at Astana Negeri here, today (Mar 18).
This courtesy visit, which marks Walsh’s first visit to Sarawak, aims to strengthen the relationship between Sarawak and New Zealand, particularly in the field of education development.
During the meeting, aside from education, issues such as climate change and international politics were also discussed between Walsh and Wan Junaidi.
