KUCHING: Sarawak will introduce assessment tests for Primary 6, Form 3, and Form 5 students to improve the quality of education and better prepare students for the future.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said these assessments are necessary due to the current automatic promotion system in schools.

“I have instructed Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn to implement assessment tests for these grade levels. The current system lacks major exams, making it difficult to assess students’ abilities. These tests will help us identify students who need additional support and provide targeted interventions,” he said during the closing of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Gedong delegates’ meeting at Raia Hotel and Convention Centre today (Dec 1).

Abang Johari, who is also the PBB president, emphasised the importance of these assessments in identifying students’ strengths and weaknesses.
