KUCHING: The new Sarawak Velodrome is expected to follow world-class cycling track specifications, as the construction management involves experts from Germany.

Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the experts are among the founders of world-class velodromes built around the world.

“Days ago (Wednesday), we held a briefing on the velodrome we intend to build. The briefing was conducted by experts from Germany had experience in designing many world-class velodromes.

“They came here to help us understand how the velodrome we desire should be built,” he revealed.

He said this at the same press conference for the 2025 Sarawak Hornbill Team Cup at the Baitulmakmur II Building on Friday (Jan 24).

Abdul Karim further explained that the velodrome is expected to be a part of the preparation made by Sarawak as the co-host of the 2027 SEA Games.

Additionally, Abdul Karim confirmed that the construction of the cycling track complex had received approval from Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The initial plans for the complex, he said, had been approved by the Premier, making it a historic moment for Sarawak as it will have its first-ever cycling track competition complex.
