PUSA: Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kalok’s new school, which is currently 82.24 per cent under construction, is expected to operate for the March 2023 school session.
Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dr Annuar Rapaee said that the progress on the project was good.
“Now (we are) just waiting for completion, which is expected in November or December (this year) as promised by the contractor.
“God willing, the school may be able to start operations here before the school session next March,” he said.
He said this to Suara Sarawak after inspecting the new school construction project, 12 classrooms and six units (teacher’s quarters and other facilities) at SK Kalok yesterday.
He noted that the project, worth RM21,230,061, which started on Sept 1, 2020 should have been completed on February 28.
“However, after being reviewed, this project has been given an extension of time (EOT) and is expected to be completed next November 4 (as per schedule),” he said.
Earlier, Dr Annuar accompanied by Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor made a visit to SK Tambak.
He insisted that the school, which was built around the 1940s, should be replaced.
“For SK Tambak, we will look again. Although there are six new classrooms, there are six more that are not very conducive.
“However, the people’s representative here (Razaili) has identified a suitable site to locate a new school in the future.
“And I think it is very necessary considering that the existing school area is getting cramped (in the village),” he added.
He expressed his commitment to cooperate with Razaili in that regard.
“Our first step after this is to resolve the land ownership issue first, then we will apply to the Ministry of Education (KPM) to get allocations,” he said.
Meanwhile Razaili said the government’s concern to develop poor schools in Beting Maro is highly expected.
“That’s why we invited Dr Annuar to see for himself SK Tambak, which is more than half a century old, in the hope that he can take our call to a higher level.
“Hopefully our plan to build a new SK Tambak school on a new site will be realised and Dr Annuar himself has expressed his commitment to complete what is right,” he said.
