KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat visited a longhouse Rumah Leyang, Ulu Semujan, Sungai Belawai, Batang Rajang here to meet residents, explaining to them government policies and the latest political scenario.

His visit was also to officiate at the new longhouse site of Rumah Leyang. The old wooden longhouse was constructed more than two decades ago.

Jamit thanked the government for allocating funds to build a road from Nanga Belawai to Ulu Belawai.

“Road construction is one of the infrastructure projects initiated by the Sarawak GPS government, to provide accessibility and convenience.

“Roads benefit the people and also landowners, opening up land for socioeconomic activities. Planting crops generate income to enhance livelihood.

“Across the Rajang River on the opposite side of Kapit, hundreds of millions of ringgit were allocated for road projects that include Jalan Menuan, Jalan Ibau and Jalan Belawai that are progressing smoothly.

“Jalan Nanga Melipis to Ulu Sungai Melipis was earlier upgraded from gravel to tar. RC ramp was constructed at Nanga Melipis and the GPS government has proposed a bridge across the Rajang River to link Jalan Menuan and another proposed road from Nanga Tulit, Pelagus to Ulu Sungai Ibau.”

On the coming state election, Jamit called on residents to vote for GPS candidates.

He also handed out MRP grants to five JKKKs along Sungai Belawai amounting to RM31,000.
