BAU: A newly completed 400-meter access road to Kampung Jagoi Gunung is set to enhance connectivity for hikers and visitors to Bung Jagoi.

The project, funded under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) with an allocation of RM140,000, aims to enhance accessibility and boost tourism in the area.

Transport Deputy Minister Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said that additional improvements, including parking facilities, will be carried out under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) to further support tourism growth.

“Bung Jagoi is well-known for its ecotourism appeal, and with better infrastructure, we expect more visitors.

“Currently, the site records around 11,000 visitors annually, and with enhanced facilities, this number could increase,” he said during his visit to the site today (Mar 15).

The Tasik Biru assemblyman said that Bung Jagoi, one of the oldest Bidayuh settlements, currently offers homestay accommodations, with seven traditional village houses capable of hosting around 400 guests.

He asserted that over RM3 million has been allocated to upgrade basic infrastructure, including a multipurpose hall, to improve facilities in the area.

“Visitors can also do glamping. There is already water supply, electricity, and a generator available.

“However, we plan to connect a 24-hour electricity supply. Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation (Sesco) is currently implementing this connection through GKCDA.

“Additionally, we have allocated over RM3 million to upgrade facilities in Bung Jagoi, including electricity, water supply, and the community hall,” he explained.

With plans for more accommodation options, including hotels under the Tasik Biru Resort City and Bau Golden Square developments, he expressed confidence that Bau will be able to accommodate larger tourism events in the near future.
