KUCHING: Upon completion, the 8.5km road connecting Kampung Bako, Kampung Buntal and Kampung Santubong will not only complement the “missing link” in the state’s coastal road network, but will also further boost tourism and economic activities in Buntal area.
Pantai Damai assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi told this to reporters after performing his Friday prayer at the Masjid Darul Mutaqqin in Kampung Buntal here, on Friday (July 3).
According to him, Kampung Buntal, which has about 3,000 people, is already popular among Kuchingites as it has several restaurants that serve fresh seafood at very reasonable prices.
“Besides fresh seafood, Kampung Buntal also has beautiful sea view especially at dusk – which is why we built the RM3.7 million Buntal Esplanade – and it is frequented by people especially during the weekends.
“As such, this village has the potential to be developed as a must visit tourism destination in Sarawak,” said Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply).
Also present were Sarawak Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) director Khalidi Ibrahim and Pemanca Roshidi Junai.
