LUNDU: Two new fibre boats will be supplied to the residents of Kampung Selampit in Sungai Batang Kayan here.
During a trial session for the boat recently, Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said that the effort is part of the state government’s commitment to ensuring that rural residents have safer and more efficient transportation facilities.
“The government understands the needs of residents who depend on water transport.
“The provision of these boats will help ensure they can carry out their daily lives without significant disruption while the bridge project is being implemented,” he said.
Meanwhile, the villagers welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that the boats would ease their daily activities, including sending their children to school and transporting agricultural produce to the market.
The boats are specifically designed to meet the needs of residents in Kampung Bitokan and Kampung Selampit, who rely on rivers as their main route.
This initiative is a temporary measure while awaiting the completion of the Selampit Bridge construction.
A total of two fibre boats will be supplied at an overall cost of RM290,400.
The boats will be handed over to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Selampit for management and supervision.
