KUCHING: The strategic development of the Neu Pendington will change the landscape and dynamic of the area into a modern township.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg pointed out that there are two important elements in urban renewal for Kuching city – modernisation and preserving heritage areas.
He said the Neu Pendington fits the modernisation approach in the urban renewal programme in Sarawak.
“I believe that this project will definitely benefit in reforming Kuching city.
“For that, I would like to thank UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA) and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation for collaborating and working together to develop our city and changing the landscape of Pending to that we will be proud of.”
He said this when officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Neu Pendington project at Lot 9561, Section 64, KTLD, Jalan Datuk Marican Salleh on Today (Sept 12).
He pointed out that non-Sarawakians would be allowed to buy Neu Pendington property as it has been declared a ‘development area’.
“Neu Pendington has been declared as a ‘development area’, meaning those who are non-Sarawakians are allowed to buy its property. So it can become Malaysia My Second Home (for foreigners),” he said.
The Premier said this was another step taken by the Sarawak government to attract more foreign talents, apart from the fact that Sarawak has been given five-year working visas for foreigners.
“For that, I will leave it to UDA to strengthen their own marketing so that the people and investors will come and invest and own property here with easy access under MM2H,” he said.
On a related matter, Abang Johari noted that as Longi and Western Digital are expanding their operations in Samajaya, adding there would be a lot of investors coming in.
“Thus, they would want to have a very conducive living standard here. As we are planning to build an Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) station here, it will be an urban link that will help them.
“With the aim for this public transport to be accessible to all, not only it will link to the Samajaya area, but it will also link to universities (such as Swinburne, UNIMAS, UiTm), our heritage area, Petra Jaya area, and all the way to Damai.
“Meaning, not only investors will be able to benefit from this Neu Pendington station, students who are studying in Kota Samarahan too will be able to live in the city and use this ART as their transport to campus,” he said.
