KUCHING: The Netherlands has shown keen interest in collaborating with Sarawak to enhance water management and technology capabilities, aiming to address pressing challenges such as flood prevention, coastal erosion, and water purification.
Dutch Ambassador to Malaysia Jacques Louis Werner said the Netherlands has a strong reputation in water management and technology areas, which could assist Sarawak in managing its water resources in various aspects.
“This includes flood prevention, flood mitigation, coastal erosion, land reclamation, and water purification for drinking and irrigation purposes.
“I have offered our support and assistance in these fields to the Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“This collaboration will implement several planned projects, including those for Sibu, which is a key example in the field of water technology,” he said during a press interview after a courtesy visit to the Premier at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today (Dec 4).
Additionally, he said that the Netherlands and Sarawak could also collaborate on global challenges like food security and sustainable agriculture.
“Tomorrow, a launch ceremony will be held for a ‘metropolitan food cluster’ development project, where bold Sarawak investors can collaborate with the Dutch food technology sector to create sustainable and high-quality food production for the future,” he said.
For the record, the launch ceremony titled Earth Breaking Ceremony For The Development Of Metropolitan Food Cluster Opar will be held at Opar Rural Growth Centre (RCG) Lundu tomorrow (Dec 5).
