KUCHING: The Malaysian Association for Powerlifting (MAP) National Championships 2025 is set to take place from May 23-25, with organisers expecting the largest field of competitors in the event’s history.
According to MAP’s statement on Sunday, nominations are now open where MAP has revised the qualifying criteria, lowering the Qualifying Total to 90% of the previous standard to allow more lifters the opportunity to compete. Categories with fewer than five entrants will see the top five totals qualify automatically.
“Lifters can secure their place by meeting the standard at selected competitions, including Nationals 2024, SPO 2024, SPC 2025, JPO 2024, JPC 2025, SAC 2025, SBD 2025, and any International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) meets held before 1 March 2025,” the statement read.
While volunteering is not required to compete, it remains a key criterion for those aiming to earn a place in the 2025-2026 National Team. Competitors must also have pre-qualified in a category to enter it at Nationals.
MAP has yet to confirm the venue, but organisers urge interested athletes to register early. For more details, visit MAP’s Facebook or Instagram (powerliftingmalaysia) page.
