Narrow escape for local man and boy in horrific car crash and fire

BAU: A local man and a boy narrowly escaped death this morning (Jan 5) after their Proton Wira crashed and burst into flames at the P-turn of Kampung Singai along Jalan Bau-Kuching.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from the Bau station were dispatched to the scene on the Pan Borneo Highway, about 31km from Bau town, at 11.29 am.

Upon arrival, they found the Proton Wira engulfed in flames.

The vehicle is believed to have skidded and crashed into a drain wall before catching fire.

Eyewitnesses reported that the man and boy were inside the vehicle at the time of the accident.

They were rescued from the burning wreckage and rushed to Bau Hospital for treatment.

Their identities and the extent of their injuries remain unknown.

The Bomba team extinguished the fire using water from their fire truck and conducted overhaul operations to prevent any reignition.

The operation ended at 12.03 pm.
