KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg saluted the harmonious state that exists in Sarawak today.
“We are lucky because every race in Sarawak helps each other, and there is a high level of mutual respect. That is the key,” he said.
“When we have a high level of mutual respect, we have the foundation to build a strong society,” he said at a Diwali lunch hosted by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) councillor Shankar R.P Asnani here on Sunday.
Abang Johari said it was therefore important to continue building on this foundation for mutual progress in the state.
Meanwhile, Shankar in his welcoming speech expressed his appreciation to the Premier who attended the luncheon with his wife, Puan Sri Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang and other state leaders.
He said he was grateful for the progress brought by the leaders in Sarawak, giving opportunities to Indians to work in the Sarawak government and agencies, as well as various other opportunities.
“We also grateful for the substantial grant of RM2.3 million for our Sri Maha Mariamman Temple here,” he added.
Also present were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian as well as Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
