KUCHING: Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol hailed the late Datuk Mutang Tagal as an icon of rural Sarawak.
The Semop assemblyman said Mutang is someone deserving of admiration, given his contributions to Sarawak’s development.
“Apart from his accomplishments as a professional and in politics, he stood out as a remarkable figure from the Orang Ulu ethnic group, demonstrating exceptional resilience and discipline in his pursuit of education and personal growth.
“Having originated from the interior, he showcased remarkable resilience and discipline from childhood, enabling him to excel in education and ultimately build a distinguished life, bringing pride to his community,” he said in an interview with UKAS yesterday (May 10).
Mutang, 70, passed away yesterday at 11.46 am at the National Heart Institute, Kuala Lumpur.
He had been undergoing treatment at the heart institute after falling ill during a working trip to Azerbaijan on May 6.
