KUCHING: The implementation of 27 high-impact Water Supply Projects worth around RM439 million is currently underway to improve the infrastructure and water supply system in Mukah Division.
Assistant Utilities Minister (Water Supply) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi who paid a working visit to the Mukah Division Water Supply Project said 15 People’s Projects fully funded by the Sarawak Government worth around RM45 million have been completed so far.
“These projects have successfully addressed water supply issues in several areas in Mukah Division.
“Meanwhile, 10 projects worth around RM185 million including eight People’s Projects, one project under the 11MP (11th Malaysia Plan) and one Rural Development Ministry (KPLB) project are still under construction.
“In addition, there are two KPLB projects worth around RM207 million still in the planning stage,” he said on Wednesday (Nov 10).
He pointed out that the water supply projects have been carefully planned by the state government through the Utilities Ministry and the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (Jbalb) as the implementing agency, as well as the federal government through KPLB to meet the growing demand for water supply in Mukah Division.
“The overall progress of 10 projects that are still under construction shows a very encouraging work performance despite previously facing implementation challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Jbalb and KPLB together with the project contractors have taken the necessary steps to ensure that the water supply project runs and is implemented according to the set timeframe.
“In addition to improving the existing water supply system, this project is also expected to boost the socio-economic status of the local community and catalyse more sustainable economic growth and ensure a better quality of life for residents in Mukah Division,” he added.
