MUKAH: A bigger passenger aircraft, the ATR, is finally flying into the new Mukah Airport here.
The airport commenced operations last June 17 after moving from the old STOLport or Short Take-Off and Landing.
However, not all outbound and inbound flights are using the 70-seater ATR.
A local travel agency staff said the ATR aircraft was used daily for the Kuching-Mukah-Kuching route only, and had commenced service since last Dec 17.
She added that it only involved the first morning flight from Kuching to Mukah and vice-versa, and the next flights would still use the usual smaller 18-seater Twin Otter.
“For Mukah-Miri/Bintulu/Sibu routes, the Twin Otter will continue to be used,” she told New Sarawak Tribune on Thursday (Jan 20).
According to her, the airfare for the ATR had also increased, from RM153 (Twin Otter rate) to RM197.
