MSU launches fifth Ramadan charity programme

KUCHING: The Management and Science University (MSU) has once again demonstrated its commitment to community welfare with the launch of the Fifth Amal Ramadan Charity Programme at MSU College Sarawak here today.

The event was officiated by MSU president, Tan Sri Datuk Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Abdul Yajid, who commended the efforts of students and stakeholders in strengthening community engagement through charitable initiatives.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Shukri praised MSU College Sarawak for its dedication to organising meaningful activities that foster a sense of giving and compassion.

He also acknowledged the strong support from local agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in ensuring the programme’s success over the past five years.

“This is a significant milestone for MSU College Sarawak.

“The Ramadan Charity Programme has become a platform for students to contribute to society while embracing the spirit of Ramadan.

“I am truly proud of the collaboration between MSU, government agencies and NGOs that make this initiative possible,” he said.

A key highlight of the event was the preparation of ‘bubur pedas’, a traditional Sarawakian delicacy distributed to the community.

“Last year, the programme featured ‘bubur lambuk’, and this year, we are embracing Sarawak’s heritage with ‘bubur pedas’.

“It is wonderful to see our students actively participating in preserving and sharing this tradition,” he added.

Apart from food distribution, the charity programme included zakat contributions and the symbolic handover of Ramadan Basket 2025 to B40 students from 20 schools across Sarawak, benefiting 100 students.

It also featured zakat distribution to MSU’s B40 students and a symbolic appreciation event to honour collaborating organisations and the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

Dr Shukri emphasised the importance of strong industry partnerships in supporting community development, highlighting MSU’s ongoing collaboration with various organisations.
Towards this end, he expressed confidence that MSU College Sarawak will continue to grow as a centre for impactful initiatives benefiting local communities.

“This Ramadan Charity Programme is a reflection of MSU’s values and its dedication to holistic education.

“It is not just about academic excellence but also about instilling leadership, ethics and social responsibility among students,” he said.
