SIBU: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu branch is gearing up for a series of activities to mark World First Aid Day at its headquarters on Sept 10.

The branch in a statement today said that one of its key activities is a first aid booth, where the public can learn essential first aid techniques, including bandaging, treating fractures (broken bones) and performing CPR.

Another event on the agenda is the sale of second-hand clothing to the public, which will take place at the lecture hall of the MRCS Sibu branch.

“We will offer clothing items at prices ranging from RM1 to RM15. The proceeds from this sale will contribute to our annual activities, with a particular focus on disaster relief, welfare programmes and community services,” the branch said.

Themed ‘First Aid in the Digital World’, the event aims to increase public awareness about the life-saving potential of first aid, both in everyday situations and during crises.

According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), a significant aspect of promoting digital first aid is to ensure that first aid knowledge is accessible to everyone.

“Digital technology enables individuals, whether they have internet access or not, to access various first aid learning resources, from basic courses to advanced life-saving techniques.

“This approach allows people to become lifesavers and share first aid practices from around the world, all from the comfort of their homes and at their own pace, without the need to rearrange their schedules,” the branch added.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang Ming Tee is expected to officiate at the event.
