KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will not enforce the use of face shields as double protection among those who work in certain economic sectors at this point.

The use of face shields as double protection was brought up by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng during his Facebook live session with the community on Saturday (Apr 24).

MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said that however, his council would carry on with its stringent checks while encouraging the public to be more vigilant in practising the standard operating procedures (SOPs), personal hygiene and safety measures.

“The conditional movement control order (CMCO) Task Force which includes MPP, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Volunteer Corps Department (Rela), Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) and Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) is still conducting its daily surveillance and checking on the SOP compliance among business entities in MPP areas.

“This is done also on weekends and public holidays to ensure that all CMCO SOPs are strictly adhered to in order to break the transmission chain of Covid-19,” he said when contacted via WhatApp on Sunday (Apr 25).

He added that the task force led by PDRM would be conducting more stringent checks, especially in crowded areas and places frequently visited by the public following the stark increase in new Covid-19 positive cases.

“16 officers of two teams from the task force’s five agencies are involved in the daily operations,” he said.

Lo reminded the public including those in the economic sectors to comply with the SOPs to ensure that everyone was protected against the disease.
