KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is looking into providing individual rubbish bins to households in a Batu Kawa area to encourage proper waste disposal.
It evaluated the feasibility during an inspection led by council chairman Tan Kai at Jalan Fo Bao, Kim Choo Seng, Batu Kawa, together with representatives from Trieneken, MPP officers, and local residents.
In a press statement on Tuesday, Tan Kai said several key factors were considered during the inspection, including the width of the road and the height of Sesco cables, which could potentially affect the movement and operation of rubbish trucks.
“MPP’s policy is to provide individual rubbish bins wherever feasible to encourage proper waste disposal and mitigate the issue of illegal dumping,” he added.
This year, MPP has implemented similar projects, including recent initiatives at shophouses in Kota Padawan and Matang, with plans to extend the effort to more areas in the near future.
“Additionally, MPP provides Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) containers during its spring cleaning programmes to assist residents in disposing of large or bulky waste items responsibly, especially in preparation for the upcoming festive season.
“These efforts aim to maintain a clean and healthy environment while promoting responsible waste disposal practices,” he said.
The RoRo containers will be available from Jan 22 to Feb 5 at Everise 4 1/2 Mile, Lim Liang Kee Commercial Centre, Jalan Ming Chung, RPR Batu Kawa Lrg 28A (Shoplot Carpark), Taman Kwong Tiong (near playground), Malihah Commercial Centre (behind H&L), Batu Kawa Old Bazaar (open space opposite roundabout), 3rd Mile Market, MJC (Block Dd & Block Ae), parking lot in front of Siong Tsing Corner at 10th Mile, Taman Flora Indah Bin Centre, Batu Kawa Bazaar (behind Batu Kawa Service Centre), Kuching City Mall (new shoplot parking at Lorong Kuching City Mall 1A), Taman Sri Cahaya at Tondong Batu Kawa, Matang Jaya Commercial Centre (parking area next to Matang Mall), and the parking lot nearby Mini Poslaju at 7th Mile.
