KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has urged Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) to announce in advance the time of the Darul Hana Musical Fountain shows.

The fountain, set on the Sarawak River in front of the State Legislative Assembly, was launched in October, 2018, in conjunction with the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s 82nd birthday.

Built and operated by DBKU, the fountain uses the latest technology to shoot jets of water up to 25m high from several hundred nozzles on a 100m-wide floating pontoon.

The fountain “dances” in time to music and lights to create a spectacle for onlookers. It can also create a water wall measuring 9m high and 80m wide.

“I have received multiple complaints about the absence of the fountain shows during the festive seasons, especially during Ramadan from visitors who came from outside the city,” said Dr Yii.

“According to the DBKU schedule, there were supposed to be fountain shows at 8.30pm and 10.30pm. But there was none. Many tourists were disappointed.”

Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong said she visited the fountain one night to check on the public complaints.

“There were no shows that night and this made the visitors and tourists very disappointed,” she added.

Yong suggested that DBKU announce the fountain shows at least a day in advance in its social media page or official website.
