SERIAN: Talent competitions such as singing for students play a vital role in building participants’ confidence, enhancing their musical talents, and contributing to the preservation and promotion of Sarawak’s cultural heritage.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn described these competitions as valuable learning experiences that motivate students to pursue further growth and progress.
He made these remarks during the opening ceremony of the 28th Sarawak Secondary School and 19th Sarawak Primary School Mandarin singing competition held at the SJK Chung Hua Serian Hall recently.
Meanwhile, organising chairman Richard Kian Hua Mudeh expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support from sponsors, the arts community and participating teams.
He also highlighted the competition’s role in uniting the music community and nurturing young talents capable of competing on the international stage.
“The four-day event not only showcased remarkable talent but also served as a platform to foster positive values, teamwork and cultural harmony among Sarawak’s diverse communities,” he said.
The event, organised by the Sarawak Singing Council in collaboration with the Serian Music Cultural Association, aims to uncover young singing talents and promote the art of Mandarin singing across Sarawak.
The competition featured 10 teams from various parts of Sarawak, namely; Kuching Music & Drama Society, Simanggang Music Society, Sibu Rajang Musical Society, Miri Musical Society, Monsen Music Club, Sarikei Music & Drama Society, Kapit Music Society, Bintulu Musical Society, Kota Samarahan Music Friendship Society, and Serian Music Society.
