KUALA LUMPUR: The annual ‘Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak’ 2022 event is finally back after two years of hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 14th edition of the one-day event will take place at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here tomorrow.
One of the highlights would be having the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to attend the town hall session with Sarawakians students from the higher learning institution in Peninsula.
Caretaker Senior Works Minister and event organising chairman Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the event this year will see a maximum of 6,200 guests attending.
“Previous years, we used to have more than 10,000 guests attending, but this year we have to limit it to about 6,200 in view that we are still in the midst of the pandemic and having to take precautionary measures,” he said.
He said this to reporters after visiting the final preparation of the ‘Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak’ 2022 at MITEC here today.
“In total, there will be 28 booths from relevant ministries, government-linked companies (GLC), and private and public sectors.
“The main programme of the event will be on exhibitions whereby it focuses on Sarawak’s development especially on the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 that was launched by the Premier recently.
“With that, students who are studying in Peninsula will be able to know better about the developments taking place at the state level, and at the same time once they graduate, we hope they can prepare themselves to meet the state’s needs, especially in the PCDS 2030,” he said.
Apart from that, Fadillah said a forum will also be held which sees panelists touching on important subjects such as the development programme in Sarawak including the PCDS 2030.
“This is an opportunity for the student to interact with the government officials, panelists, including youth leaders in details on matters related to Sarawak.
“Following that, there will be a town hall session with the Premier in the afternoon. At the town hall session, students can interact and can raise any problems they faced directly to the Premier,” he said.
For instance, he said in the previous Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak, Sarawak students studying in the Peninsula had raised the high airfares, and hence the ‘Graduan Pulang Sarawak’ subsidy scheme initiative (iGPS) was set up to help the students.
“This is what we hope to see where we are able to foster a closer relationship between Sarawakians with the state leadership, state officials, MPs as well as elected representatives,” he said.
Fadillah, who is also the incumbent for Petra Jaya said the programme includes job opportunities offered by public and private companies.
The event which is expected to kick off at 9am and will end with a dinner with the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and other Sarawak state leaders.
Meanwhile, the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak is organised by the Sarawak Volunteers Association (Sarawak Volunteers) in collaboration with the Sarawak Liaison Office in Kuala Lumpur, and with the full support of the Sarawak government.
