KUCHING: A total of 232 city residents have applied for the BAS.MY concession card, showing strong public interest in the city’s new stage bus service.
Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said the concession card, introduced under the federal government’s initiative, provides affordable transport for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PwD), and students.
“The registration fee is only RM10, with a validity period of two years for senior citizens and students, and five years for PwD users.
“More importantly, renewals will be free, as the federal government is committed to covering the cost,” he said in a Facebook statement.
Yii had the opportunity to experience the BAS.MY Kuching service firsthand today.
He praised it as a major step forward in enhancing public transportation for the people of Kuching.
“The bright pink BAS.MY buses are easy to spot, and many commuters are already benefiting from this service,” he said.
Registration can be done at Biaramas Express Sdn Bhd’s office at 9 Market Street or a temporary booth near the Open Air Market.
Applicants need to present their MyKad, PwD card if applicable, or a confirmation letter from their institution for students.
The BAS.MY buses, which are already in service, are equipped with a global positioning system (GPS), electronic ticketing machines, and OKU-friendly features.
The government has also introduced the My50 travel pass, offering unlimited rides for RM50 per month.
Yii encouraged more Kuchingites to use the service, saying public transport adoption would help reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the city.
“I commend the federal government for its investment in transforming Sarawak’s public transport and look forward to seeing further enhancements and better collaboration with the state government to make public transport the preferred choice for all,” he added.
