KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) is reviewing existing policies related to children to develop a more comprehensive national child policy.

Deputy Minister Aiman Athirah Sabu said among the policies being revised are the National Child Policy, the National Child Protection Policy and child-related elements in the Reproductive and Social Health Education Policy.

She said a new action plan will also be developed with the new policy which, among other things, will outline guidelines to strengthen governance, legal policy and service delivery to children.

“It will also include the implementing agencies at the federal, state and local authority levels, community support and the cooperation of all non-governmental organisations that need to be empowered for the best interests of children,” she said during an oral question-and-answer session at the Dewan Negara sitting today.

She said this in response to a supplementary question from Senator Ros Suryati Alang who wanted to know the government’s efforts to improve existing acts to provide comprehensive protection to children. – BERNAMA
