KUCHING: Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan has urged for more community-based activities to be organised in Pantu district to enhance its vibrancy and potential.

“More efforts should be done to make Pantu district active, lively and vibrant in tandem with it being elevated as full district two years ago

“Thus far we have Pesta Pantu as a signature festival which is held every year to rejuvenate it into more participative momentum like other bigger towns in Sarawak,” he said when officiating the Capacity Building For Grassroot Leaders Seminar For DUN N.30 Balai Ringin, Pantu District 2024 at Dewan Sri Pantu, here yesterday (Mar 16).

He pointed out the need for a variety of activities such as roadshows, seminars, sports events, carnivals, and exhibitions involving local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and private sectors.

“This will add to some formal activities launched by government agencies such as the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) or National Registration Department (JPN) for that matter to serve the rural populace.

“Nature and adventure activities can also be explored as our tourism products. We have to capitalise on the flora and fauna vegetation that we have surrounding us,” he said.

Adding further, Snowdan said that recreation spots such as Wong Jaban waterfall in Kpg Jaong, Pantu and Wong Radak waterfall in Kampung Tuba are hidden gems that can attract picnic goers.

“The Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA) will undertake to develop these two spots of which I am the chairman of the Infrastructure and Tourism Steering Committee. We have allocated funds for these.

“In the long run the spin off effects will impact the local economic activities such as handicraft, cottage, cultural events and overall tourism,” he said.

Among those present at the seminar were deputy Sri Aman resident Charlie Keling, Pantu district officer Langgong Langgong Wasam and community leaders in the Pantu district.
