MIRI: Parents have been urged to monitor their children’s activities and the company they keep to prevent them from getting involved in crime.
Miri deputy police chief Supt Sabri Zainol said communities must play their part so that youths stay on the right side of the law.
“We have many ways to help vulnerable youths and set them on the right path,” he said during a dialogue with the communities in Bekenu near here yesterday.
Cooperation between the police and communities would help steer youths away from destructive behaviours such as drug abuse and illegal motorcycle racing, he said.
Fifteen neighbourhood watch community representatives from Kampung Tanjung Belipat Hulu and Hilir, Kuala Sibuti, Padang Kelulit, Muhibbah, Ladang 3, Tanjong Bungai, Angus, Kejapil, Keluru Jaya, Dagang (Bekenu), Taman Bazaad Bekenu, Subak, Bakam and longhouses within Bekenu area attended the session at the Subis district hall.
Also present were Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni and community leaders.
