SIBU: The Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri attended the Iftar Ramadan ceremony with Sungai Merah police personnel at their headquarters in Jalan Wawasan today (March 30).

During the ceremony, Mohd Azman presented Ramadan aid to 12 ‘mualaf’ (converts) from Sibu District Police Headquarters, two widows, two single mothers and certificates of appreciation to five police officers for their outstanding performance.

During his short visit to Sibu, Mohd Azman managed to visit three police stations: Sibu Jaya police station, Lanang police station, and Sungai Merah police station.

Mohd Azman was briefed on the services, issues, and suggestions for improving Sibu police services as well as facilities in their effort to better serve the community.

Meanwhile, during his speech at the Lanang police station, Mohd Azman said that he would reconsider the application for the construction of a new police station for Lanang. Currently, they have been using a senior officer’s residential quarters as a station.

“It is time that this matter is acted upon and we will try to make an application for a new police station and a new building. The situation now is different from 2004 and it is not practical,” he said.

Mohd Azman said that the station now has a total of 57 personnel and he believes that their strength is sufficient to carry out their duties.

“I urged every personnel to improve their integrity so that they can set an example for the community. This is important to ensure that the police station is a safe place and people feel safe to make any complaint,” he said.

Also present were Sibu Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, Sibu district deputy police chief Supt Dr Collin Babat and others.
