A moderate earthquake struck the Taiwan region at 5:22 AM today, as reported by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
The earthquake registered a magnitude of 5.0 and occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres.
Its epicentre was located at coordinates 21.9 degrees north and 121.5 degrees east, approximately 144 kilometres southeast of Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
There is no tsunami threat to Malaysia associated with the earthquake.
