KUCHING: The state mobile Covid-19 vaccination programme is one of the ways of speeding up the process of achieving herd immunity by August.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the approach, particularly in the rural areas, had been successful and would enable Sarawak to achieve its target of vaccinating at least 80 percent of its eligible population by August.

He said taking the vaccines to the people would make it easier for villagers, especially the elderly folk, as they did not have to travel far.

According to him, this is one of the efforts that should allow the frontliners to achieve the 80 percent herd immunity.

He said this at a press conference after checking on a mobile vaccination programme for the villagers at Kampung Matang’s Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman Hall at Mile 10, Jalan Matang today.

The one-day programme today was organised by concerned people of Petra Jaya and Tupong in collaboration with the medical authorities, private sector and corporate bodies.

“This is a sub-urban area and we are here to see the vaccination process. We have also visited rural areas including Kapit.

“The process is the same as those in other rural areas. Just for the vaccination here, we provide a bus,” he said.

Abang Johari thanked all those responsible for the success of the mobile vaccination programme.

Also present then were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Senior Works Minister and Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, and Tupong mobile vaccination outreach programme chairman Senator Dr Zaiedi Suhaili.
