KUCHING: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) yesterday, provided medevac assistance to an injured foreign crewman of Singaporean chemical tanker MT Theresa Libra.
The 52-year-old victim from Myanmar, who sustained injuries to his fingers and wrists, was in need of immediate medical attention and a call was made to MMEA Sarawak for assistance on Aug 23.
Based on initial information received, the location of the chemical tanker, was said to be around 240 nautical miles north of Tanjung Po.
Its director First Admiral Maritime Zin Azman Md Yunus said the operations centre received a call from the tanker’s agent around 6pm on Aug 23, requesting assistance to transport the victim to a hospital for treatment.
“The tanker was later directed to rendezvous with one of the agency’s vessels, about 3.8 nautical miles northeast from Tanjung Po around 4.30pm on Aug 24.
“The victim was then brought to the MMEA’s jetty before taking him to the hospital for further treatment around 5.40pm,” he said.
Zin Azman said the agency is always ready to provide any emergency assistance to the maritime community.
