KUCHING: After over a week of searching, the family of 14-year-old Nur Afiqah Aina Mohd Rafik can finally heave a sigh of relief after she was found safe by members of the public here.
Nur Afiqah, who had been missing since June 15, was found at a supermarket in Jalan Sultan Tengah here at about 3pm Wednesday afternoon (June 23).
Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan in confirming this, said the teenager was located as a result of information provided by the supermarket.
“Following the information received, we immediately directed our personnel to the location for verification.
“She (Aina) was found safe and healthy, even her family has been informed,” he said when contacted on Wednesday.
Aidil said the SMK Sri Matang student was then taken to the Batu Kawa Police Station for further action and questioning.
He added that the teenager was trying to purchase a mobile phone sim card and was recognised by members of the public there.
“She was found wearing a different shirt than that which she wore on the day she was reported missing.
“So, we will investigate who gave her clothes from the day she went missing, where she was during that period and so on.”
Aidil said investigation found that she had been staying with her boyfriend in Kampung Sudad, Batu Kawa, Kuching.
“As a result, her mother has also lodged a police report for further investigation to be carried out,” he added.
Aidil informed that the ‘boyfriend’ has been detained to assist in investigations.
