SERIAN: The 59-year-old man who was reported missing on April 8 after he failed to return from his farm at Kampung Pridan, Jalan Mentong Merau, was found safe yesterday.

A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire Department operations centre said the rescue team were informed by the police that the victim was found alive.

The villagers found the victim identified as James Ringen in Phase 7 oil palm plantation area at 5.50 pm.

He was immediately taken to Serian Hospital for medical examination.

With that, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was called off at 7pm.

Earlier, Serian fire station were alerted by the police at 9.40 am on the incident and deployed a seven-man team to the scene to commence the search.

Also involved in the search was the Fire and Rescue Department’s K-9 unit led by two handlers and a canine named Daisy.

It was reported that the victim’s son lodged a police report regarding his father’s disappearance at Serian police station yesterday morning.

Before lodging a police report, a search party comprising the son and villagers on Saturday tried to locate him but to no avail.

It is understood that the son was informed by his mother of his father’s disappearance at 6 am on Saturday.
