SELANGAU: Two locals reported missing during a frog-hunting trip in the forested area of Sungai Dalit, have returned home safely yesterday (Jan 4).

Civil Defence Force (APM) Selangau district officer Lt Luke Douglas Dongum said the men, aged 44 and 52, were found by members of the public at Ulu Pakoh at around 5pm.

“They were unharmed and were later escorted back to their respective homes.

“Following their discovery, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was officially called off at 6pm,”  he said.

The incident happened last Thursday (Jan 2) when four men, including the two victims, entered the forest in pairs to hunt for frogs around 6pm.

However, the victims failed to exit the forest and were feared lost.

The victim’s families filed a police report for further assistance on Saturday (Jan 4) after the villagers’ initial search efforts proved unsuccessful.

Acting on the report, Selangau firefighters, APM Selangau, as well as Stapang and Dalat police, were deployed to the scene, about 67km away.
