KUCHING: The ‘Mini & Youth Rugby Program’ has gained significant traction in recent weeks, fostering key rugby skills and enthusiasm among young players.
The Miri Division Rugby Association (MDRA) announced on its official Facebook page that the program will continue today (Jan 11) at SMK Merbau, starting at 9 am, due to unavailability of the stadium.
The initiative has created an engaging environment for children of all levels, from beginners to experienced players.
Fakrul Hafiz Abu Bakar, MDRA vice president, shared his thoughts on the programme’s progress, noting the positive response from participants.
“The Mini & Youth Rugby Program has been a resounding success. Participation has increased, and the passion for rugby is growing. Coaches have focused on basic techniques like passing, tackling, and positioning, while ensuring the sessions remain enjoyable for the children,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
Fakrul also highlighted the programme’s social benefits, with players forming friendships and learning teamwork and communication skills.
He credited parents and volunteers for their vital support in motivating the children and ensuring the programme’s success.
“The past few weeks have been exciting for everyone involved, and it was clear that the programme will continue to inspire the next generation of rugby players,” he said.
Parents and young athletes are encouraged to attend and take part in this community-driven event.
