MIRI: The 20th Dynasty Half Marathon Charity Run will take place this Sunday, Sept 22, focusing on supporting the needy in Miri.
Organised by Dynasty Hotel Miri in collaboration with government departments and local non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the event is expected to draw around 500 participants from both Miri and beyond.
Stanley Gena, chairman of the event, said all proceeds from the marathon will go directly to various charitable organizations in Miri.
“Every year, through this initiative, we raise funds to help those in need. The proceeds are used to purchase care packages, which are distributed during annual celebrations we organise with our partners,” he told a press conference yesterday (Sept 16).
The marathon will feature three race categories, namely 21 kilometres, 10 kilometres, and 4 kilometres — spanning key routes in Miri, including Jalan Miri-Pujut, Jalan Bulan Sabit, Jalan Sukan, Jalan Kipas, Jalan Sylvia, and several others.
Residents should take note of road closures, particularly on Jalan Angsana, in front of Miri Saint Joseph Church, which will be closed from 4 am to 8.45 am for the event.
The run will be officiated by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries, and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, at 4 am on Sunday.
Stanley emphasised the importance of community involvement in making a difference, encouraging locals to participate in the run.
“This event is more than just a marathon; it’s a symbol of our collective effort to uplift the underprivileged in Miri,” he said.
Through initiatives like this, Miri continues to showcase its community spirit, with residents coming together to support those in need.
