MIRI: The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Sarawak Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) is planning to upgrade the Miri Indoor Stadium to get it ready for the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) next year.
Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap said that the stadium needs improvements in facilities and infrastructure because it’s the only place suitable for hosting the public during Sukma next year.
“In Miri, we already have a place for Sukma next year, but it needs some upgrades,” he said.
“My suggestion is to install air conditioners so that the audience can feel comfortable and not sweaty while watching Sukma 2024,” he added.
Rentap said this to reporters after the 2023 Inter-Departmental Futsal Competition at the Miri Indoor Stadium yesterday.
Moreover, he said that three sports events have been chosen to represent the Miri District during Sukma: martial arts, rugby, and sailing.
He explained that the participants in these events come not only from Miri District but also from various other parts, including Kuching.
