Adam Yii (GPS-Pujut) has called for construction of a new terminal at Miri Airport due to the growing number of passengers.
He stated that upgrading is necessary because the current terminal structure is no longer suitable or adequate.
“I would like to suggest that a new terminal be built with the proper two-level airport terminal design to cater to the increasing number of passengers anticipated,” he said in his maiden speech during the motion of appreciation to the Head of State (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s address at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.
Concerning the Miri Port, he said that the issue of the port’s shallow water depth has been a long-standing issue.
“It’s important to address this shallow channel as soon as possible so Miri doesn’t have to rely on the ports of Bintulu and Samalaju.
“This will also translate into lower prices for Mirians,” he stressed.
On another issue, he said the development of the Piasau Nature Reserve is still behind.
“Hence the general conditions have to be improved to make it the premier nature reserve in the city as it was envisioned,” he said.
Apart from that, he stated the construction of road access to Mulu National Park and waterfalls locations such as Julan must be expedited for the development of various tourist attractions.
For the overall development of greater Miri, he said that the construction of road access to Mulu and Limbang must be expedited.
“The importance of direct road access from Miri to Limbang without crossing Brunei territory has been woefully apparent during the current COVID-19 pandemic, when road access from Miri to Limbang and Lawas was cut off due to Brunei border closure.
“Limbang and Lawas have only been accessible by air for the previous two years,” he pointed out.
