MIRI: The local council here aims to continue developing more mini parks in residential areas, subject to funds availability.
Miri City Council (MCC) said this was one of the priorities to provide a conducive living environment in residential areas.
However, MCC would not be able to convert all the open spaces into mini parks and recreation grounds in light of limited funding, the statement said.
“MCC is grateful that assemblymen in Miri Division are helping to source for funds under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
“For the past five years, Senadin assemblyman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, Lambir assemblyman Dr Ripin Lamat and others have been assisting MCC.
“Their help have seen the implementation of more than 40 development projects, including converting open spaces into mini parks, in the city.
“Apart from this, MCC has also allocated a fairly big sum each year for the maintenance, upkeep and upgrading of all parks and playgrounds under its jurisdiction.
“This also includes the maintenance of open spaces that have been converted into mini parks and playgrounds in housing estates and kampung.”
With regard to the open space at Lorong 14, Taman Delight as reported in the Chinese press, MCC said it was possible to include the said land for further development subject to the availability of funds.
“For the record, there are several open spaces in the Taman Delight area and lately MCC, through RTP funding, have developed three mini parks at Lorong 1A, Lorong 1B and Lorong 8, all at Taman Delight.”
