KUCHING: After serving as chairman of Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) for a decade, Datuk Peter Minos is set to embark on a new challenge as chairman of Serian District Council, effective April 1.
Entrusted by the state government to spearhead Serian’s development, he aims to replicate his success in Samarahan and drive the district towards greater progress as his tenure at MPKS officially concludes on March 31.
In a press statement released today, Minos reflected on his time at MPKS and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve and play a role in Kota Samarahan’s transformation.
“After 10 years of service in Samarahan and at the age of 76, the government has asked me to go to Serian.
“It is a challenge, but I accept it. I have done my bit at Samarahan, and I look forward to serving Serian,” he said.
Among his key objectives is to elevate Serian’s status to a municipality, a task he previously accomplished for Samarahan in 2016.
“I have been asked to help Serian become a municipality, just as I did for Samarahan. It is not easy, but it can be done.
“I have also been tasked with looking into the construction of a new Council headquarters, as the current one is outdated and congested,” he added.
Minos also pledged to support Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s vision of transforming Serian into a mini ‘New Zealand’, emphasising his commitment to boosting tourism in the area.
“As a Bidayuh-majority area, I will see how we can upgrade and improve things in Serian, being a Bidayuh myself.
“Together with other agencies and my staff, we will work towards the betterment of Serian,” he said.
Minos also extended his appreciation to the Sarawak government for its trust in his leadership and thanked the people of Kota Samarahan for their support throughout his tenure at MPKS.
