SIBU: The Ministry of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government (MPHLG) remains committed to addressing the persisting issues plaguing ‘sick’ housing projects in Sarawak.

Deputy Minister Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee said last year alone, the state recorded 33 sick housing projects. Nevertheless, as of January this year, the number has gone down to 31, proof of some progress in the resolution efforts.

“My ministry’s aim is to continue solving the sick housing projects. When I say sick, it means not dead yet, still breathing. There is hope; there are only technical issues that we need to overcome,” he told reporters at his Chinese New Year open house, attended by more than 1,000 people from all walks of life yesterday (Feb 11).

Tiang, who also serves as the Pelawan assemblyman, announced that his ministry plans to launch a statewide roadshow tour to promote the housing tribunal which aims to ensure that homebuyers are aware of their rights and can safeguard them effectively.

On his open house, Tiang said that the spirit of unity among Sarawakians allowed them to come together in harmony for multiracial celebrations.

“We are heading towards a prosperous and developed state by 2030. I am confident that we can achieve it as long as we continue to stay united,” he said.
