SERIAN: The Ministry of Transport will review the issue of insufficient road signs along the Pan Borneo Highway.

Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Roads) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said that the ministry will collaborate with the Road Safety Council and the Public Works Department (PWD) to address the issue periodically.

“Hence, we also seek information or feedback from the public regarding the inadequate road signs.

“If members of the public notice a lack of road signs in specific areas, we want them to report this so that we can analyse and conduct site visits. If necessary, we will add them,” he said.

He told this to reporters after launching the Pan Borneo Highway Road Safety Advocacy Campaign 2023 at the Sarawak Administration Centre here today (Aug 26).

Jerip, who is also the Mambong assemblyman, added that the ministry would pay attention and assess what could be done in the future regarding the shortage of road signs, particularly at entry intersections and flyovers.

On the subject of speed limits, which currently stand at 90 kilometres per hour on Sarawak’s first highway, he mentioned that they would be subject to traffic flow and would be periodically reviewed.

“It depends on traffic flow and will be one of the things reviewed periodically,” he said.

He further said that the 786-kilometre Pan Borneo Highway, stretching from Telok-Melano Sematan to the Pujut Link Road in Miri, has achieved 97 per cent progress.

“There’s a little left, and by the end of this year, we hope to fully achieve the target of completing this highway,” he added.

In another development concerning the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system, he said that it is currently undergoing test runs at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) area.

“At the moment, we are actively constructing the ART route from Kampung Rembus to the Kuap bridge, covering a distance of three kilometres.

“We hope to complete it by the end of September or October,” he said.
