KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) will look into the viralled 23-second clip case of a couple in a compromising position in a car in a public carpark in Johor recently.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said she will discuss the issue with the police and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to gather more information on the case.
Among matters that would be discussed is the 17-year old teenager who was brought to court in handcuffs.
“Looking from a social media perspective, I could comment on the matter based on Section 15 of the Child Act where an arrested child must be protected at all cost and his or her face must not be revealed and the name must not be mentioned as it could jeopardise the child’s future.
“Generally, the child should not have been handcuffed. We will discuss this with the Home Minister,” she told a press conference after attending a Kasih Ramadan programme with her ministry at Pullman Hotel yesterday (April 9).
Nancy said the discussion is important to protect the child involved in the related case.
“We do not want the people to be confused, therefore I hope that everyone can continue to be responsible and abide by the laws,” she said.
She said the viralled video involving a 22-year old and the teenager is not under her ministry’s jurisdiction.
“This case is under the jurisdiction of another ministry, however, I believe they would also look into the case as well,” she added.
Investigations are underway under Section 377D for indecency, which carries a two-year imprisonment upon conviction.
Separately, the Kasih Ramadan programme saw the presence of 300 people from various institutions under KPWKM attending.
During the event, 40 individuals from Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN) Sarawak received assistance from KPWKM.
Nancy appealed to corporate companies, NGOs or individuals to contribute to those in need through the YKN initiative.
