KOTA SAMARAHAN: Will the Sukma Games be held in April next year or will it be delayed again?
Youth and Sports Assistant Minister, Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the federal Ministry of Youth and Sports would be holding a meeting in December to discuss the matter.
He revealed that he attended a meeting with the ministry in Johor recently to discuss the organisation of the games.
“From that meeting, I was informed that the Sukma Games will be held some time in April next year. Meanwhile, the Para Sukma Games will be held one month earlier,” he explained.
Snowdan told reporters this after attending the launch of D-Virtual Park at Jalan Meranek here on Monday (Oct 12).
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at the event.
Snowdan, however, pointed out that with the surge in Covid-19 cases in the country, the Sukma Games might be postponed again.
“Although it was set for April 2021, the ministry will be holding a final meeting in December to confirm whether the games will be held as planned or postponed to 2022.
“Because it is delayed for two years, some athletes will have surpassed the age limit but the ministry will still allow them to participate,” he said.
Despite all that, Snowdan told that the Sarawak contingent was already gearing up for the games.
