MIRI: The Ministry of Works (KKR) has proposed that a Building Information Modelling (BIM) Centre be established in the city.
Its Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the proposal was in line with his commitment to adopt advanced digital technology in infrastructure development in Borneo.
He said he would submit the proposal to the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).
“I was informed earlier by stakeholders in Miri who requested that a BIM Centre be established here.
“In this regard, I will present this idea to CIDB, and we will work to realise this request to establish a centre in Miri,” he said when speaking at the 2nd Edition of the Borneo Infrastructure Symposium here today.
Meanwhile, he revealed that Sarawak and Sabah in total have 54,701.746 kilometres (km) of roads with 31,774.044 km in Sarawak and 22,927.702 km in Sabah.
Clearly, the vastness and complexity of the road network has presented challenges and opportunities for infrastructure development in the area.
In this regard, he said his ministry was committed to spearheading the use of advanced digital technologies such as BIM.
“BIM helps improve the sustainability of infrastructure projects by offering a more sophisticated 3D model-based approach to design and construction.
“In addition, under the ministry’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025, we have set a target to ensure that 80 per cent of projects worth RM10 million and above will use BIM by 2025,” he said.
According to him, the initiative will not only increase efficiency but also improve the quality and sustainability of infrastructure throughout Malaysia, especially in Borneo.
