LUBOK ANTU: Alert officers called a retailer’s bluff about having no stock when they discovered five boxes of cooking oil he had hoarded in a store here.

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry’s Sri Aman branch chief Al Redzamani Abdul Razak said the retailer’s ruse was found out during an Ops Samar in town.

His party found five boxes of one kilogram cooking oil packets stored elsewhere in town.

“We found that the premises had a supply of cooking oil but when the undercover officers tried to make a purchase, the retailer claimed there was no stock of cooking oil.

“The law enforcement team then conducted a follow-up inspection and we managed to find 85 kilograms of cooking oil,” he said in a statement posted on the official Facebook of the ministry branch, yesterday.

“This case will be investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961 for hiding a scheduled controlled item,” he said, pointing out that the law provides for a fine of up to RM2 million or RM5 million for subsequent offences.
