KUCHING: The Defence Ministry (Mindef) has denied a viral image of a body was that of a missing soldier from the Fourth Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment.

It clarified that the image was the body of a woman found by a Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) vessel KLD Tunas Samudera while sailing through the northern Melaka Straits recently.

The image went viral on social media, claiming that the bodies of the two Sarawakian soldiers who went missing during the ‘Ops Pejarak’ on Pulau Perak on July 19 have been found.

A statement from Mindef clarified that the search operations for the two missing soldiers were still ongoing.
The TLDM’s vessel KD Laksamana Muhammad Amin has been mobilised in the search operations which started on July 20 and was focusing on the island and the surrounding waters.

Therefore, all parties should stop sharing and circulating unverified report and information to avoid confusion and respect the victims’ family members.
