KUCHING: The construction of the flyover at the Batu 8, Jalan Penrissen intersection here has now entered the initial design phase, site placement approval, and consultant appointment process, says Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang.

He said the project is estimated to cost RM480 million and, once fully completed, will resolve the traffic congestion issues.

“The project is currently still at the site approval and design stage. A consultant has not yet been appointed, but the process is ongoing.

“The consultant will carry out the detailed design in the coming months,” he said when interviewed by the media during a site visit to a drainage construction project at Mile 9 here today (Apr 8).

Meanwhile, Lo also expressed his gratitude to the Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, for approving the allocation to realize the project.

He said he personally met with the minister in Sibu last year to highlight the urgent need for the flyover.

Following that, Nanta promised that the application would be given immediate priority by his ministry.

“On June 24, 2024, Nanta announced the approval of this flyover project, bringing relief to many road users who travel daily to school and work along this route,” he said.
